THE SHORT VERSION

We collect your email address, your name, your date of birth, and whatever you post: photographs, films, voice notes, comments.
If you post a photograph, we also keep where and when it was taken, because that is what puts it on the map.
We sell nothing, advertise nothing, and track nobody. If this app ever charges for itself, that is how it will pay its way, never by selling what you post.
Who can see what you post depends on the trip it is on. Every trip is Public, Friends, or Just me, and Public means anybody at all. New trips start Public, so check the setting before you post.
You can ask for all of it back, and you can delete it yourself, from inside the app, whenever you like.

1. WHO HOLDS YOUR DATA

2. WHAT WE COLLECT, AND WHY

When you make an account

Your email address: to sign you in and to reach you about your account. If you sign in with Google, we get your email address and your Google profile picture from Google.
Your name: it is what people on your trips see.
Your date of birth: only to check you are 16 or older. We do not show it to anybody.
A profile picture, if you add one.

When you post

The photograph, film or voice note itself.
When it was taken, from the file.
Where it was taken: the latitude and longitude, and the name of the nearest town. This is what places it on the map; that is the whole app.
Its size and length, so the app can lay it out.

When you comment

The words, or the voice note if you record one instead, and when you wrote it.

While a trip is on the road If you are sharing your position on a live trip, the app records the trail of where the car has been: the latitude, the longitude, and, from your device, accuracy, speed, altitude and battery level. That is what draws the moving car on the map.

What the app remembers about your visits Whether you are signed in, and a small amount kept on your own phone so the app opens fast.

We do not measure how you use the app today. There is no analytics of any kind in it. If we ever add any, it will be aggregate counts: how many people use the app, how often it is opened. Never a profile of you as an individual. We will say so here before we start.

And these we will not do at all: no adverts, no advertising identifiers, no third-party trackers, and we will never sell your data. Those are not "not yet". They are not going to happen.

3. WHO CAN SEE IT

Every trip carries one of three settings, chosen by whoever owns it:

Public: anybody at all can see the trip and everything on it, whether or not they have an account here, and it is listed on the owner's profile page for anyone who opens it. Nothing stops a search engine finding it either.
Friends: the people on the trip, plus the people its owner has accepted as friends.
Just me: the people on the trip, and nobody else.

⚠️ New trips start on Public. If a trip should not be public, change that before you post to it. The setting sits on the trip on your home screen and you can change it whenever you like.

Whatever the setting, the people on a trip see everything posted to it, and your friends can see your name, your picture and the trips you are on.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We have never done either, and we do not intend to. If this app ever needs to pay for itself, it will do that by charging the people who use it. That is the version of this promise worth having, because then what we earn comes from you rather than from what we know about you.

4. THE COMPANIES THAT HOLD IT FOR US

We are one person and a couple of servers. These are the services that store or move your data on our behalf:

Supabase: the database and the sign-in system. Your account, your trips, your comments and the map data live here.
DigitalOcean: the server that holds the photograph and film files themselves.
Netlify: serves the website you are looking at.
Google, in three ways. Google Sign-In, if you use it. Google Maps, which draws the real map and receives what it needs to draw it. And Google's geocoder, which is sent the exact coordinates of every photograph you post, because the name of the nearest town is how a photograph gets placed on the map and Google is where that name comes from. Google's own privacy policy applies to all three.
Resend: sends the account emails, such as confirming your address.

Each of them is used to run the app and for nothing else.

5. WHERE IT IS

On servers in the United States. If you are somewhere else, your data is transferred there.

6. HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

As long as you have an account. When you delete your account, see the next section, and section 6 of the Terms of Service, which says the same thing in more detail.

7. DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT

You can delete your account yourself, from the You screen inside the app. You do not have to ask us, and you do not have to give a reason. We ask you twice, and the second time you have to type the word delete, because none of it can be undone.

When you delete your account, everything about you goes: your email address, your date of birth, your name and your profile picture. You disappear from your friends' lists and from the list of people on every trip.

Everything you put here goes with it: your photographs, your films, your comments and your recorded locations, from trips that were only yours and from trips you shared alike. The picture files themselves are removed from our media server, not merely unlisted.

One thing stays, and it is not yours: a trip you shared with other people stays for those people, with what THEY posted on it. If it was a trip you started, it freezes: they can still look at it, but nobody can add to it again.

Comments other people wrote on your photographs are deleted along with the photographs, because they were about a picture that no longer exists.

Afterwards there is nothing of you left to look up. If you sign up again later, with the same email address or a different one, you are a new person here.

8. WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR

Write to info@laserdive.com and you can ask us to:

show you everything we hold about you;
correct anything wrong;
delete your account, as section 7 describes;
send you a copy of your photographs and films.

We will answer within 30 days. There is no charge.

Depending on where you live you may have further rights under your own law. If you do, we will honour them; just ask.

9. CHILDREN

You must be 16 or older. We do not knowingly hold data about anyone younger. If you believe a child has an account here, write to us and we will remove it.

10. KEEPING IT SAFE

Sign-in is handled by Supabase, and we never see your password. Traffic is encrypted. But this is a small app made by one person, and we cannot promise a system is perfectly secure. Keep your own copies of photographs that matter to you.

If your data is ever exposed in a way that puts you at risk, we will tell you.

11. WHEN THIS CHANGES

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will ask you to accept the new version the next time you open the app, and we record which version you accepted and when.
